The prettiest fence in all the land...

northernwalker and I were jointly swooning over our unreasonable love of wrought iron recently, and I happened to mention that a house on my street has a pretty, pretty red wrought iron fence, and she requested pictures. I just managed to remember on my way home from a walk on Sunday and so left my shopping unattended for a few moments to take some. I then realized that the house right next to it has a pretty, pretty black wrought iron fence as well.

Also - woo to the hoo! - I finally got the second mood theme to upload properly! I've no idea what I was doing wrong, though I think I had a double // when I wanted a single, but that really doesn't explain why some were working but not others, as all the line items were identical. But anyway... as a result, I am now Ecstatic - see above.

Ooo, those are nice fences! Not that it's unexpected, considering that your neighborhood is generally lovely, but those little sub-finials in the bottom photo are awesome. Something pretty to look at while dissertating!

Thanks! So that's where you've been...I should have guessed...I'm really focused on finishing this portion of the fic - I'm honestly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I spent most of the weekend reading, and I think that helped.

So, in conclusion, I'm glad to lend a hand to you as well! I hope the dissertating is going well.

Lovely pictures, and lovely fences. I grew up climbing on fences like those, and have a scar to prove it. There were wrought iron hitching posts, too, horse's heads on top with a ring in their mouths for the reins.

I miss the Midwest, and seeing things every day that are more than a century old :-)

It really is a nice fence isn't it? As I said, it's short, and the tall fences are the ones which attract immediate attention, so its elevation is due to you. Good work to both of us!

Both fences are quite nice - I do like a wrought iron fence too. They always have such lovely curlycues and designs.

Wrought iron is just pretty by default. I think it was 221b_hound who said it's sometimes known as iron lace in Australia - such a lovely image!

Yes, I was quite proud of myself even though I'm sure it was just some little slash or dot that was out of place and I didn't actually fix anything...

Wrought iron hitching posts? That is something I've never seen, but how lovely! Hm...wrought iron - tethering - air ships - Pirate Sherlock...world building is so rewarding.

Wrought iron, like the ones in the links above, and cast-iron too, although apparently cast-iron is much less durable. I grew up in Morgan County Illinois before moving north, and my grandparents lived there all their lives. Beautiful little town called Jacksonville, with lots of homes on the historic register.

I had hopped over to troyswann's journal, and her airship fic is on the list. I'd honestly been mentally adding it to the list of things to catch up on just in the last day or so.

In fact - I'm going to go start it now. :-)

Hm - wrought iron ships? wrought iron anchors! wrought iron piles of rope with a ring of rope? though I'm imagining that the music powers the wind - this is part of why Sherlock needs officers - one violin can only do so much - but magic could provide a base level of buoyancy, requiring tethering.
