Hooray! Oh, this is fantastic. John is the perfect observer here -- clever and sharp in his own right, and now up against a formidable array of Very Weird People. It takes quite a bit to make Sherlock Holmes look normal, doesn't it?
Although Mummy and Daddy are clearly both horrible people, they make an interesting study. No matter how superficially weird everyone is, they're all human in the end, full of the same petty resentments and problems that everyone else has, just with their own ways of expressing it.
Also, they kind of remind me of this family. Let's call them . . . the Holmesbergs . . .
