I must admit that the hobnobs were cast in a starring role for the sheer fact that hobnob is a funny word.
In fairness to John, he did expect to tag along and monitor the shopping, but yes, just to be safe he should have been more specific.
Well, there has been some suggestion both here and regarding an incident in TSP that Mycroft should provide video of certain incidents. I'm vaguely amused at the idea of producing a commentary fic of sorts as various characters are filled in on events they did not actually witness through the all-seeing eye of security video/cctv monitoring.
