The last time we were in the corner of Iowa that holds the American Gothic House, we enjoyed the chance to have our picture taken together in costume in front of the place. There's a small but charming visitor's center; a parking lot that was, at the time we stopped by, dangerously potholed; and an attendant who was extremely appreciative of the company. They take a lot of pictures of visitors, but I'm not sure they've managed to once achieve the sincere grimness displayed by the original models.
