Oh, thank you! I wrote that little sun/moon bit and then I also stared at it for a little while, but I did it because I was thinking, "Oh god, that's got to be in every Sherlock fic ever written - it's so obvious. Why can't I have an original thought?" So, very cleverly, I googled it, expecting to get pages of fic results - not so much. I persisted through a couple of pages and found there's a set of Tarot cards on tumblr where John is the sun and Sherlock is the moon. At that point I mentally shrugged my shoulders and decided it was original enough for this little piece. :-)
I ended up with an antique peg bed http://www.colonialsense.com/How-To_Guides/Interior/Bed_Roping.php which is quite lovely and has been adapted for use with a modern box spring and mattress. I am now sitting outside on the porch an hour into my two-hour delivery window. Luckily, the weather is stellar. I'll probably post proper pictures eventually. :-)
