Bohemian National Cemetery

Sunday was sunny, so of course I headed out to the cemetery I've been meaning to tromp round. Sunny it may have been, but I eventually became truly concerned about the state of my toes.

There were a lot of trees and female figures along with a handful of angels. I will definitely have to go back when there isn't snow on the ground. The downside will be the leaves on the trees. I found the bare branches quite atmospheric.

You have some great shots in there. The first and third are my favorites.

Thank you. Yes, we have quite a lot of these tree trunk monuments in the older cemeteries in Chicago. The bark is usually folded back to 'reveal' the inscription and there is usually lots of lovely detail, such as that ivy growing up the back of it in the first snap. Trees and draped pillars - pretty distinctively american in nature. :-)

Wow—more interesting than most cemeteries I have visited! Great photos; thanks for sharing.

We have some good ones. I'm quite lucky in that respect. Thanks for perusing. :-)

Beautiful! Bohemian is a great cemetery and the snow is lovely!

I'm very excited to go back. I don't think I've seen so much gorgeous statuary in one place before. I just felt like I was being led on from point to point. I had to force myself to leave.

These are wonderful shots. I keep meaning to make my way out there myself.

Oh, are you local? I'd be happy to possibly schedule a rendezvous to explore the grounds further. I find making an appointment (as it were) gets me out more reliably. :-)

I live on the south side of Chicago so I'm pretty local. Sounds like fun. Having a plan with someone else makes for good motivation. Ever since I found out I could get there by bus I've told myself I'd go there but it always was "someday" and "eventually".

Also having another person would (hopefully) make getting lost more difficult.

Maybe Monday or some other day next week? I don't know when the current snow will melt but more is predicted for next Friday. Or did you want to wait a while more?

Sooner rather than later is fine with me, but I hold down a 9-5 so I'm not generally available on weekdays. Aside from Saturday the 12th my weekends are open for the foreseeable future, though. :-) *makes note to be a responsible adult person and acquire suitable footwear*

Sunday the 13th maybe? My own work schedule is a bit more uncertain. I work at conventions so when there are no conventions (like right now) I'm off. Plus when there is a convention I can't be sure if I'll be assigned to it so making plans too far ahead is a bad idea (I don't want to have to cancel on you).

The 13th works for me. Unless the weather proves ridiculous, let's plan on that. :-) Shall we touch base again nearer the day to set a time?

Sounds good. We'll contact each other in a few days.
