Geeking out over Sherlock - in public

Guys - I just made a spectacle of myself in public. Seriously.

Since I came back from Edinburgh I've been aware that it is time to Get Serious About Tea. The teabags at work produce something, well, vile, in comparison to real tea. So when I was out today and I passed an Adagio tea store, I went in. I picked out a little tea-for-one set to have at work and smelled a bunch of tea. Then I was checking out and to my right on the counter saw -

I nearly began hyperventilating. I then proceeded to represent our fandom by gasping out something like - Oh my god, they're slashing the tea. This is slash tea! This is so awesome! I'm going to need to take a lot of pictures now and then buy all of these.

The girl who was helping me was pleased that I was so happy, but she was a little confused by How Happy I was.

Bloody hell. I can't drink tea myself (unless it's herbal) but I could so with some of that to send to friends. Is it only available over the pond?

No, there's definitely a UK address on the packages...hang on, googling...

http://www.adagio.uk.com/black/index.html?SID=2d12aae4b08f3a7833d599038f97a124

That page states that they deliver to the UK. I'm surprised not to be finding a store, though. Hang on, going to the kitchen...

324-326 Regent Street, London W1B 3HH, UK is the address on the packaging along with a US address in NJ.

Right. Next time I am in London ... Birthday presents for a few Sherlockians ...

Hm. Check that out online before actually turning up. I'm not sure if it's an actual shop or a headquarters of sorts. I'm not having any luck confirming it is an actual shop.

There's a UK site too:

How is this real? And in an actual SHOP? And how for the love of all that's holy do I get some? I'm in Australia. They don't deliver to Australia. *weeps disconsolately*

[identity profile] 221b-hound.livejournal.com 2012-06-16 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
And OMG they have TARDIS tea and avengers teas and even tea for Remus Lupin!!! *sobs at the unfairness of not living in London*

[identity profile] 221b-hound.livejournal.com 2012-06-16 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Or the US. I need to throw an epic Sherlockian tantrum. About tea.

[identity profile] impulsereader.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
ahem. Well, if you would like to place an order and have it sent to me I could certainly forward it on to you. I would feel bad drinking my cups of Sherlock with you being denied the same privilege.

[identity profile] 221b-hound.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
OH. Um. *blushes with shame* *but also noticing that Sherlock tantrums appear to bring results* *now I feel ashamed again*.

That would be a very wonderful thing. If you message me your address, I will do that very thing, and send you mine. And then you can tell me what you need from Australia so I can fulfil your Antipodean desires in the post.

Adagio also has this, and, my favorite, this. You can make and name your own blends.

I'm imagining you squeeing "slash tea" in the store, and smiling :-)

[identity profile] impulsereader.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
I did! I said it multiple times and she asked me, 'what?" and I just ignored her because I couldn't process and didn't know how to explain - it was truly mortifying.

Even though . . . my favorite tea is Twinings Irish Breakfast . . .

Even though . . . I also have an unopened package of Chinese tea (from Henan province, no less, and dear God is it tasty). . .

Even though . . . I really shouldn't be spending extra money on a graduate student's "income" . . .

I think I still feel the need to pay Adagio a visit when I get back in July after my trip. After all, it's not like tea goes bad. It'll keep while I drink the Irish and the Chinese teas. Plus, that shop looks awesome.

[identity profile] pargoletta.livejournal.com 2012-06-16 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
And, hey, idea! Since you obviously know the shop, maybe we could meet there.

[identity profile] impulsereader.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I spent so much more than I should have today - more than a bit not good. They didn't have any of the other fannish tea, and there, for some reason, was only one of each blend other than Sherlock and John.

Yes, that would be an excellent place to meet, they offered to brew me up a sample of anything I wanted to try and had samples of iced tea and other blends, and possibly a tray of little tasting things.

I'll be back in early July, and we should definitely make plans then.

[identity profile] impulsereader.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, after the holiday. Have fun!

Tea does go stale, after a while, regardless of the packaging. And the fancy teas should be consumed as soon as possible after opening the package. Or so my tin of Very Pretentious Tea says.

[identity profile] f-m-r-l.livejournal.com 2012-06-16 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Loose leaf tea, I presume?

[identity profile] impulsereader.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, tea with things contained in the mix other than bits of unidentifiable shredded possibly-tea-leaves. Since I've been walking so much recently and it's been so hot I've had to institute iced-tea breaks and I was completely astonished when this nice little cafe produced a green iced tea which tasted of something - actual something rather than more like nothing which is what I normally expect from iced tea. This reminded me of my tea resolution.

*dies laughing* Ah, fandom. Guaranteed to make you say things you never thought you'd say in public.

[identity profile] impulsereader.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Thinking back I just kept saying 'slash' and 'oh my god' and 'I'm going to be a while'. It was awful. One of the times I said 'slash' she said, 'what?' but I just ignored her because my brain was seriously misfiring and I wouldn't have been able to even attempt an explanation. In my rush to get my camera out I left my debit card unattended and out of reach. I was completely out of it. I was, in short, hilarious.

[identity profile] mizz-history.livejournal.com 2012-06-21 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Heh! That's awesome :o)

[identity profile] impulsereader.livejournal.com 2012-06-21 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't believe it, fannish tea! I'm now expecting a delivery this week which I'm going to forward on to Australia since Adagio doesn't ship there. Fandom is awesome :-)
