John is very empathetic, and he just has this 'connection' with Sherlock that I honestly think would eventually come through in this (admittedly bizarre and unlikely) scenario. One of the things I loved when I came back and added the last section just recently was that suddenly the texts were so very Sherlockian. Suddenly it was Sherlock texting without fear of being recognized, in fact, he's unconsciously letting the cat out of the bag and hoping John catches on so that he doesn't have to actually say it. He is really, honestly wishing that John hand known it was him all along, but knowing that he'd been putting on an act, the next best thing is to not actually have to tell him, to give him the clues to figure it out himself.
