I love the shield bit as well. I really feel for Mycroft because in this situation - and to a lesser extent on the show since I'm sure Mummy and Father there were not quite this toxic - he really would have done all he could to protect his little brother, and it really would have driven Sherlock away from him.
Originally I had Mycroft and Not Anthea in an established relationship and once I switched that out this scene got much, much better!
