I like using the British spellings because I think it makes me pay more attention to what I'm typing, making it easier to remember to use the right vocab for the characters.
But the two words in question are rather distinctly British. It seemed like they should both be hyphenated but I was using them one right after the other and it looked odd to have two hyphenated words so close together and I got nervous!
But then I realized that I could access a UK dictionary online and did, so that was all right. :-)
