In which I have been meaning to post this since Sunday!

I can't quite seem to catch up. I'm writing the first Interlude and trying to plan a trip for my birthday in a month and I have to clean the house, and things are just a mess right now.

But...I was out on Sunday, walking and plotting the Much Ado year. I ended up in a park, going off-road as it were, looking for a sculpture, and I saw something flapping around in the branches of an evergreen. My first thought was, 'Wow. Whatever's flapping around over there is larger than your average bear...' And it was...

Said Red Tailed Hawk has heard about the famous author who writes about Red Kites and wants to meet her ...

Aw! He did seem a literary sort of fellow. ;-)

Beautiful!!

He is, isn't he? I've arbitrarily decided the bird is male. ;-)

Those are some gorgeous pictures you got of a gorgeous bird! I'm always impressed when I even see one that close - but of course I never have a camera with me so I never get a photo.

Thanks! I was really excited that he hopped around in that tree for as long as he did. I felt very lucky to have encountered him - and to have my camera!

My husband is more the picture taker so he does have some excellent pictures of wildlife and other interesting things. For me, first I have to find my camera and by then whatever it is has gone away. *g* That why I mostly take pictures of things that can't get away (like food), are willing pose (like Chicklet), or can't get far away (like our many pets).

Very cleverly, you have formed the perfect team. :-)

It's a baby hawk! Their eyes darken as they age, and he hasn't quite grown into those ginormous talons. Beautiful.

Sorry again for my absence on the intarwebz - the RL trainwreck just keeps on coming. Still hoping to catch up on reading and commenting very soon, even if I have to just plunk myself down amidst the wreckage to do it ♥

He is beautiful, isn't he? *melts*

I believe around here they band some of them, there are projects etc., so his being a baby would certainly explain his lack of leg band and the fact that I found him flapping about next to a baseball diamond in use.

I am happy to report he exhibited common sense and made a clean escape after politely posing for me.

Don't be fussed. My stories and I aren't going anywhere.

I will add, though, that I have already established (if only in my head) that messenger birds will be key within Pirate!Sherlock's 'verse. The birds, of course, are Mycroft's. Communication is key.

Oh he is beautiful and the photos are fabulous. I'm now ineffably jealous that the birds of prey I see don't politely pose for me. Maybe I should start taking lures with me on my walks? Except the dog would eat them and people might be a bit funny about a weird woman wandering about clutching bits of dead animal and looking hopefully at the sky!

I am reliably told that in the Chilterns you can wander around yelling and Red Kites will drop out of the sky like so many chickens looking to be fed. So your proposal, if carried out in the correct area, is a good one.

I was really so lucky, and I felt it at the time! I couldn't believe I was the only one taking pictures of him. Even if no one else had spotted his flapping, surely someone was curious about the woman repeatedly circling this tree and taking pictures...

*starts packing bag and fetches map before remembering the house, the dog and the job*
Right, next spring I'm going to the Chilterns :)
