And his knowledge base and skill set would be entirely different than anyone Holmes knows (Lestrade is, after all, a product of the forensics-based police system that came to be as a direct result of the Holmes stories). Holmes would be fascinated by this man. There would be some things that he'd know more about than anyone, some things where he'd be the only one to grok what it is that Holmes does and why, and a lot of things where he'd be utterly and completely clueless (mostly cultural). He would be like no one Holmes had ever met, which would be like floating chunks of meat to a shark.
