In which I should be asleep

I have this odd notion of writing BBC Lestrade into ACD canon...
...wouldn't he be wonderful? He'd be a sort of crossover of the two versions of Holmes - tolerant and just clever enough...he'd be time-traveled, of course, so he'd be all indignant on that account, but everything would still be oddly familiar to him...and Holmes would dismiss him out of hand because he's Lestrade but this Lestrade proves to be oddly clever...

I think I do too...it is possible this is a direct result of my seeing some of the Dr Who ep with Rupert Graves all mixed up with doing the Sherlock 60s...my brain is taking its prompting into new and sophisticated places...

And his knowledge base and skill set would be entirely different than anyone Holmes knows (Lestrade is, after all, a product of the forensics-based police system that came to be as a direct result of the Holmes stories). Holmes would be fascinated by this man. There would be some things that he'd know more about than anyone, some things where he'd be the only one to grok what it is that Holmes does and why, and a lot of things where he'd be utterly and completely clueless (mostly cultural). He would be like no one Holmes had ever met, which would be like floating chunks of meat to a shark.

Yes - this is what makes it so entirely delicious - also what makes it absolutely terrifying because I'd have to learn all these forensic thingies. Then I'd have to work out ways - oh lord - I have to go to work - looking forward to Friday...
