Picture post!

I urge everyone to hop over to my spy request post, even if you have no spies to offer up, and get a preview of what is in store. http://impulsereader.livejournal.com/40144.html?view=329936#t329936 And now, a picture post. Chicago over Labor Day weekend.
I have on offer wrought iron, a funny sign, farmers' market, more wrought iron, Egypt in Chicago, and a new book on Shakespeare. But first, above the cut because it is just that awesome - I give you, years before he had an inferno: Dante's Caterpillar.

I ran across this in the window of what must be a day care or school of some sort and it set me to giggling madly. Potential parents, please learn to anticipate what your child's name will put others in mind of when made possessive and put in front of silly words.
This is a gate to a small cemetery near home.

A random but lovely detail I ran across on my walk.

Saturday's funny sign. I suppose I'm just not the right audience for this one.

And I've reached the farmers' market.

I really love when they name the produce.

Shout out to my Suffolk contingent!

I don't particularly enjoy eating mushrooms, but they are pretty!

I'm also a sucker for rainbow anything.

Come for the sub, stay for the psychic reading.

She's open!

Not as far away from that Subway/Psychic combo as you may expect, I happened upon one of our ritzier neighborhoods and learned a valuable lesson. This is, unsurprisingly, where all of coolest wrought iron hangs after class.

All of the above, incidentally, were all on the same house. Another lovely gate in the vicinity.

Welcome to Lincoln Park - the actual park rather than the neighborhood.

Then this little guy with the cute green legs showed up.

Just in time to help me illustrate one of the monument's features.

And of course I was thinking, 'Hm, I wonder what sort of bird the little guy is. I'll have to look him up.' But the Park District was way ahead of me.

But since he was clearly posing rather than nesting I trust I didn't actually disturb him in any way.
All right, the Egyptian building was incredibly difficult to get photos of because there were cars parked bumper to bumper in front of it, and because it's still (amazingly) home to a removals company one of them was a large moving truck. This meant the view from across the street was useless. I did what I could.

And, the next day I ran across this and it just made my weekend!
