I can report back that the intros by Steven Moffat (A Study in Scarlet) and Mark Gatiss (The Adventures of Shelock Holmes) are delightful. I know this because I read them in a bookstore today.

Good lord, I am a complete and utter bastard.

Yes.

Hang on, he’s making a move on you!

Yes.

But that’s my job.

Well then, get on with it.

I can’t. There’s this script thing in the way.

-----

“There’s a newsletter?”

Annoyed at the interruption, Sherlock didn’t even try to keep the techiness from his voice. “What are you on about?”

“I’ve been sent an email newsletter about the Production.”

Mention of the Production immediately chased away his irritation. “Oh? That’s new. What does it say?” He got up to read over John’s shoulder.

“We’re supposed to have learned our lines by now.”

Sherlock snorted in derision. “What else? Anything helpful?”

“What exactly would be helpful aside from my suddenly being possessed by the spirit of John Barrymore?”

------

Right. So the new fic is currently, quite alarmingly, outgrowing by leaps and bounds the reason for its existence. I realized that what I really needed to do was insert an ACD plot into each of the holiday sections. I'm seriously considering The Speckled Band for the second part, but could use any suggestions on something relatively short and straightforward that could conceivably include one of a shooting party getting shot - the intention being to cover an attempt on his life by having him surrounded by people shooting guns. (Because, natch, John, Anthea et al get in on the shooting party)

Other things swirling around my head:

I need a science experiment which Sherlock could do with the kids. I'd like it to be borderline inappropriate - like it involves blood or something.

Where and when should I have Much Ado set? Basically, what sort of dress would you like to see me put Sherlock into?

Richard Hannay is a great actor. Who should I cast him as in MacBeth and Much Ado?

I am not giving Mycroft and Sherlock any additional siblings. I am seriously considering chickening out and finding some reason why their parents are not making the trip either.

Cabin Pressure - I'm hoping to get some in on YouTube soon, but would it be believable character-wise for Martin if: Mycroft has Anthea charter a flight to the estate with the sole purpose of kidnapping Martin and bringing him in as a ringer to play Dogsberry?

*Something with rocketry would be terrifying enough, considering it's Sherlock. Or here: http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?s=bc1d8aa3fb7a184473948b5e6c7df809&t=81833

*Sherlock in a 1940's Dior New Look would be hilarious. But then, I am cruel.

*Macduff and Don Pedro or Antonio come to mind for Hannay.

I think Sherlock would take extreme exception to the fact that you've included his name and that forum thread in the same post. I was thinking more along the lines of a baking soda volcano - but something Sherlock would think was useful. He relates to kids just fine as long as he doesn't have to tell them any falsehoods - you don't go to heaven your body goes to a special room and gets incinerated.

I like this. I might have to go with something more recognizable - Ancient Egypt or Rome, but this is still gelling. One of the last glimpses of Baker Street will be a costume fitting and I'm not sure yet how that's going to look.

Very good. He's going to be more useful outside the play - possibly as the victim of an assassination attempt, poor chap - but a strong supporting role suits him.

I'm having the worst time finding the rest of his books. That's why I was canvasing bookstores yesterday. I hit two B&Ns along with three or four UBSs with no luck. Two stores had The Thirty-Nine Steps and I'm almost done with that, but no one has the collection. I'm going to end up paying for shipping on this, and that's supremely annoying...

http://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/b/buchan/john/index.html This has lots of his books, including all the Hannay ones and Court of the Morning, which is Sandy Clanroyden's book. I don't love reading books online, but they're free and easy to get.

I agree that I prefer real books, but this is excellent for my purpose in getting on with transferring the words from brain to screen. Thank you!

So there have probably been toys and the like put away in the attic or left on a nursery shelf for decades, if not generations. Consider what Sherlock might have grown up with as "normal" toys. http://www.cracked.com/article_19481_the-8-most-wildly-irresponsible-vintage-toys_p2.html :-)

Oh, that is so a scene! Sherlock remembers something that he wants to find in the attic and he and John go hunting through all the random stuff that's been stored there. Work does not approve of your link, but I will take a look when I get home.

That's the second page of the article. Cracked in general is not something I'd read at work, which is probably why your workplace objected, but this article shouldn't have anything too terribly offensive in it.

Work objected because of some sort of streaming bs...the link is awesome. Thank you!
