OK - this is good! I'm honestly and truly almost done! woo hoo! I may be posting before the end of the week!

The scary part is that I think what I want to do to celebrate once I am done is go over here - http://acd-holmesfest.livejournal.com/569.html - sign up for it, and try my hand at some ACD fic. This is absolutely terrifying to me. I'm not sure I should make my first attempt for a challenge, so I might try a little piece out on you guys first.

I'm just hopping on and off here, I owe some of you thoughtful replies and I'm behind on my friends page, but things are a bit nuts at the moment. I'll hopefully be online tomorrow evening and be able to play catch up.

Oh yeah.....I ended up using multiple.....I just couldn't choose in the end....

---------------

Claude gestured to the tea tray. “You can just sit and visit, John, I have what I need for the pose and I’ll just be doing studies today, getting your individual features. You’re ready?”

“Yes, go on, commence the creepy artistic staring. I can take it.”

“A brave man indeed,” Claude responded with a grin, “to take on all these Holmeses and their creepy artistic staring!”

John grinned back. “I am reliably informed that the group noun for Holmeses is an eccentricity of them.”

“Nonsense, it’s a complication of Holmeses, much more apt.”

“An inconvenience,” put in Sherlock.

“An extrapolation,” offered Grandmere.

“A Gordian bloody knot of Holmeses,” John decided.

“Which you’ve sliced through quite effectively,” Sherlock observed, then asked archly, “Shouldn’t you take off your shirt, John?”

Oh I love it - especially the Gordian knot!
Re the ACD fic, I think your plan to try one out first is probably safest unless you really thrive on plunging head first into the unknown. If you want a beta or someone to bounce ideas off let me know - I'm happy to help :)

I love the latest snippet and the discussion on the collective noun! So excited to read this whole thing!!

I think dabbling in ACD fic for a start to get the feel of it is a good idea. :)

I love the multiplicity, and John's decision :-)

ACD fic sounds fun...

That's all. Applause!

I'm so glad! And, as I seem to recall that the Gordian knot was your suggestion, thank you very much indeed!

This is what I'm really enjoying about writing this story, the wonderful suggestions which swirl around and then manifest in these perfectly delightful ways.

I completely rerouted Mycroft and Anthea when you commented that her being present for the 'confrontation' made things seem very much 'business as usual' (completely paraphrasing) and that's proving much more interesting than my initial take on it - she's still Diana Rigg, but she's earning his interest, which is a much better story.

Fun - but very, very scary. I'm still undecided and determined to keep it short if I do it - dipping a toe - not jumping in. There is, after all, a lot more of this story to get out there and Pirate!Sherlock to think about.

I must remember to type responsibly - or type into a blank document if I'm going about it under the influence...

Thank you so much for the offer, I'm sure I'll be flailing around bouncing things off you quite often! I've calmed myself down a bit and told myself to take it easy, and instead I'm going to just lurk over on the 'fest and aim to do their next one. Honestly, my greatest fear is disappointing whomever would have been receiving my fic. I could end up being complete rubbish at ACD fic, I'm really too new at this to accurately predict the outcome. To prepare, I'm going to start the new round of [livejournal.com profile] sherlock60. They're just now starting round 2 AND doing a Granada watchalong (I, quite shamefully, have not previously seen any episodes, so I think this will help me figure out how Holmes and Watson sound in my head.)

So, as far as fandom and writing is concerned, I'm basically really, really excited without feeling stressed right now, which is pretty nice!

I'm always happy when you like what I've written. Thank you!

I should have known there was a reason why I couldn't choose just one...the crazy thing is that writing fic is, for me, like an invisible person is just walking around randomly handing out candy bars - this one is a caramel Twix.

Yes, I've come to my senses and am going to lurk on the fest and try to plan on participating in their next one. I am going to do the new round - just starting! - of [livejournal.com profile] sherlock60 and follow their Granada watchalong to prepare! This will be much less stressful than flinging myself into the deep end of the pool. I am occasionally sensible, even when typing. :-)

We've been rewatching the Granada series recently, as well as rereading the ACD stories, and I've been full of glee and delight at seeing the touchpoints between those and BBC Sherlock. I especially like it in both ACD and Granada when Watson, just every now and then, turns and gently gives Sherlock a metaphorical slap upside the head. He has patience, does our watson, and it's very nearly infinite, but not quite. I do love in the latter seasons of the show, especially, how much was conveyed in just the looks that Brett/Hardwicke gave each other as Holmes/Watson. They spoke volumes, very much like Cumberbatch/Martin. :)

Oh yea! I'm really so excited about getting started on Granada! I've been re-reading piecemeal just for fic purposes, and a more organized approach to it is just what I need. New tv is a total bonus, and friendly people to discuss it all with is just fab - really fab - see, I've gone all Arthur again!

My beloved beta [livejournal.com profile] kizzia has just posted a "all things Sherlock" list with a couple of links I think you might find useful for writing ACD sherlock - it's here, I hope it will be useful!

And yay for being excited without stress - can you send me that ability?

Sure. Easy peasy. *virtually beams her good mood to your coordinates* The internet makes all things possible, hadn't you realized?

I predict that will be endlessly useful. It's so nice to have all the links in one place!

There's so much to love (and a few things to not love very much: I will never ever watch The Sussex Vampire ever again). And if you read Victorian-era Holmes fic, you'll start to see Jeremy Brett and David Burke/Edward Hardwicke *everywhere*.

Interesting. I'll be honest, I'm cheating (just a bit early for the official watchalong) right now and watching Scandal as I type - paused at the moment - and THE CURTAINS are the same pattern as the wallpaper in the flat. *gapes* What the heck else - I think I need to take notes - this is ridiculous!

That episode sometimes makes me cry with laughter. That count is such a drama queen! The way he takes off his mask and just flings it somewhere behind him in the flat. It's almost like he's waiting for the applause.

Watson is all deferential to the count as well! He's hilarious!

Oh my - Brett as Holmes acting - it's actually a great Sherlockian tradition, isn't it? I had no idea, but it makes sense.

Hm. He maybe - dare I say - does it better being all actually 'in disguise'?

Still - in modern day London - 'Punch me in the face!' + entertaining John dialogue = Love

All right, now I'm just cross. This ACD story is ridiculously easy to adapt and relate.

*frowns*

*reflects that she imagined adapting TSC would be relatively easy*

*tries to move on*

Wait - I've just read your reply again and cannot find the Sussex Vampire on the list of Granada episodes on wikipedia - not that this means anything...but you and vampires caught my eye so I decided to ask...

It was filmed as The Last Vampyre in The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes. It was poorly adapted, turgidly filmed and Brett is so far off form it's sort of sad to watch. His health was suffering a lot in the last two series (Casebook and Memoirs). Actually, of the shows in Casebook, The Master Blackmailer is the best, and Shoscombe Old Place is fun for the appearance of 18 year old Jude Law in a supporting role! And then there's James Purefoy being all young and pretty in The Boscombe Valley Mystery.

Brett clearly had lots of fun doing Sherlock In Cunning Disguises. In ACD, Watson was always saying that the stage had lost a great performer when Sherlock Holmes decided to be a detective. Still, I like the Sherlock interpretation that he simply changes his demeanour rather than going about in wigs and false teeth. Though doubtless he'd be brilliant at it if he tried.
